The Ashton gardens are full of wonder this year during the tulip festival. The Ashton Gardens are located in Thanksgiving Point, near the Museum of Curiosity. Each year, they have magnificent flowers in bloom scattered about the grassy garden hills. It is a wonderful experience to walk through the gardens, gazing at the beautiful flowers and statues, with the sounds of birds chirping and a trickling water fountain echoing in your ears. During the tulip festival especially, there is so much more to do and see.

The Garden

The biggest attraction is the tulips themselves, and for good reason. Tulips were originally from the regions of modern day Turkey and were imported to Holland in the sixteenth century. Every year, the tulip bulbs are imported to these gardens and cared for tenderly. Tulips are very fragile and need a certain climate to grow. It is wonderful to see all of these amazing tulips here in Utah.

Tulips also have many different symbols. A tulip itself means perfect love, but paired with certain colors it can mean innocence (white), or good wishes (pink). The many different colors are wonderful and stunning to look at.

Another activity at the Tulip Festival is Tales for Tots. It is every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 11 am. It’s a great time for a child’s imagination to run wild and develop a love of reading, science, and literature. After that, you are free to see other attractions. Take a guided tour through the gardens, or see the Secret Garden.

After several months of procrastinating New Year’s resolution of getting fit, the Tulip Festival presents its 5k run. This run takes you through the beautiful, hilly gardens. After the run, feel free to visit all of the vendors and try their different foods. They even have vendors that have their original family recipe from Holland and make Dutch waffles.

One of the best parts of the garden is the peace you feel from the nature that has enveloped you. The best place to feel this peace is in the Light of the World Garden. There, you can reflect in the midst of powerful statues depicting the life of the Savior. There is a wonderful spirit of kindness and love there.
