Hardship Paves the Way for Leadership

Cole Perry, Staff Writer

Hardship is one of the things in life that 99 percent of people experience. Most see trials as negative because they can cause misery. “When life is hard, remember – we are not the first to ask, ‘Is there no other way?” Elder Holland says. However it is those very trials that put us and our very spirit to the test. Some of the best things blossom out of these trials. They shape, define, and help us to grow. We can learn certain characteristics from these hardships. Muhammad Ali was one of the greatest boxers in the world. He said, “ I hated every minute of training, But I said, ‘ Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.’” Ali has been a role model to me personally and has helped me through some of my hardships. All of these hardships and trials can lead to good. Often it can create a leader. One aspect of a leader is someone who has experienced hardship and can guide others through it. From the misery comes good and the ability to help others.
